Grass Pink (Calopogon tuberosus)

On this cold, wintry morning, I was day-dreaming of warm summer days trouncing through the bog. Maybe this photo can help you think of warmer days ahead. Taken last summer on the MnNPS field trip to bogs in the Hill City, MN area.

Embrace Open Space announcement

December 14, 2007

Embrace Open Space is a conservation campaign started a couple of years ago to focus attention on the remaining natural areas in and around the Twin Cities and the conservation efforts needed to protect those remaining resources. It is a collaboration of many like-minded organizations who share common values with the MnNPS.

This recent announcement came to me through the Minnesota chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (MASLA, of which I am also a member), and I thought might be of interest to you in the society:

Join us for a discussion on: Conservation Ordinances and Incentives

Several local governments have adopted ordinances that create incentives to preserve open space and community character. We will see the wide variety of preferred incentives and methods and learn what is in place in different locales. Most importantly, we will have a discussion that allows you to ask questions and helps you define next steps and further information needs to protect and preserve our natural resources.
